Education Management Platform :
Yarlee Foundation for Modern Studies (YFMS) as a model institution for academic excellence in innovation and technology subscribes to an Online Education Management System, an offline and online software application (School Web Database) designed by ComNet IT Solutions, Inc. for the effective means of creating, distributing, managing, archiving and tracking student records and data anywhere, anytime and on any device. It is an application aimed at keeping track of records on learning institutions in Liberia through the use of a Uniform Resource Locator or web domain that allows institutions to efficiently and effectively manage their academic and financial records, plan courses / subjects, conduct registration, view progress reports and archive other relevant and vital statistics and information of students, teachers and employees. In addition, the application also provides a safe haven for the keeping of records and other important data that can be accessed after a long period of time or refer to in the wake of natural happenings and other unavoidable situations such as fire outbreak, flood etc. It provides a virtual learning platform where notes, assignments, tests and other resource materials can be uploaded and downloaded for use by teachers and students. More besides, it intends to keep parents and guardians of students abreast of the academic performance of their child/children through the use of a student portal.
The software application amongst many other features performs the following functions:
- Host students’ records online
- Provide easy access to such records
- Provide a virtual learning platform for teachers and students interaction and learning experiences
- Prevent unauthorized access through a coding system
- Grant parents and students the opportunity to access academic and financial records through the use of a student’s portal using a log in user name and password
- Keep track of a student academic performance from entry into the institution until exit
- Keep a database of all employees of your Institution
- Provide statistical academic report through charts and graphs
- Ability to send out bulk SMS to parents, guardians and sponsors of students for meetings and other important events
- Provide room for whatever program the institution desires into the software
Security features of the System :
The online education management system is developed under a robust and powerful Application Management System that handles the security issues at application level. The security features of the Application Management System include:
- User registration – all users to the application have to have access and they are defined in the application and given specific access roles and functions on the system.
- System users are restricted to access programs and data as specified with the access roles when they are defined.
- Program access restriction times – this security feature restricts access to programs to specified times and when necessary even weekend access.
- A privileged user audits Audit Trail – all transactions in the applications. These transactions involve data entry, updating or deletion.
- Infinitely scalable database – the application uses the Oracle database which is a dynamic database. It records data ranging from small to very huge amount of data. This database is also very reliable and robust.
Benefits of the System :
YFMS is greatly benefiting as a result of the utilization of this program. The software application is:
- Flexible – Application can be tailored to meet your needs
- Simple – Easy menu for navigation
- Easy to learn – Graphic user interface of the application is user friendly
- Reports: Generates reports and statistics into charts, graphs, PDF, Word, Excel etc.
- Printable: Periodic grade sheets, report cards, transcripts, receipts and other analysis can be easily printed alleviating the financial cost associated with the production of such documents
- Accessible: Students records can be accessed anytime at anywhere and on any device without limitations
Computer Lab :
At Yarlee Foundation for Modern Studies (YFMS, our students are the primary beneficiaries of our computer lab education program. The students are provided training in basic computer literacy that enables them to fully utilize the new innovation and meet the needs of the world of growing technology.
As part of our curriculum, we have designed a modern computer lab at YFMS where computer lessons are offered to our students as project to establish and maintain computer literacy in schools in Liberia, a country where several of its people are in dire needs of computer skills. The lab is established with carefully constructed and sustainable program. Once our students have some familiarity with computers, our teachers integrate them into daily lessons. This affords talented and ambitious students the opportunities for work and higher education.
YFMS sees this as an initiative for inculcating knowledge and skills appropriate for the twenty first century in young students and to bridge the current “digital divide’” between our school and other schools in the sub-region.
The primary objectives of the YFMS Computer Education Program are as follow:
- To provide an opportunity for our students to learn basic level of computer education and skill set to enable them to seize the basic employment opportunities after high school in the IT/Computer Science and service sector and simultaneously develop understanding for advanced IT/computer education enhancing their career prospects.
- To enrich the existing curriculum of our school by including ICT education and training To design the curriculum based on institutions’ inputs and industry’s demand.
- To enable our students to acquire skills for higher studies and gainful employment.
- To provide a platform in which students of our school can be given windows of opportunities thereby bridging the digital divide in the society.
- To promote critical thinking and impart analytical skills amongst our students and develop their attitude for self-learning.
